The detox process involves either the medicinal or psychological removal of a toxic substance(s) from your body. For the most part, the detox process can be a bit of an unpleasant experience where your system is cleansed of the addictive substance and any residual toxins that have built up during your addiction. There will be a withdrawal period during which time you return to normalcy. You must first undergo the detox process before proceeding through the rest of the addiction treatment and recovery process.

The length of the detoxification stage will be determined by the intensity and severity of your addiction. Additionally, you can expect to experience any one or all of the following withdrawal symptoms during this time:

  • anxiety
  • cravings
  • depression
  • irritability
  • seizures
  • sleeplessness

The onset of the above symptoms typically takes 2 to 3 days during the detox process and depending on the individual and the severity of their addiction, these symptoms can last up to several days.
