Drug Treatment variations

Some drug rehab programs are really beginning to focus on what caused the addiction in the first place. In other words, did something in the addict’s life make that person more inclined to become addicted?
Stress is always a biggie. And, people handle stress differently. But, even those who stress out easily don’t use the same techniques for coping with the stress when it happens again. One person would NEVER even consider taking a drink or popping a pill or snorting a line or whatever, no matter how bad it gets, while another, unfortunately, took to the bottle (for instance) like a duck to water.
So, why do people react differently? Is it the way they were raised, or how the people who most influenced their lives when they were coming up handled stress that matters?
Drug rehab programs use a person’s past to figure out why that particular person became addicted and the best form of treatment to help the person overcome the addiction. This is why most programs do encourage family participation. Someone else can probably shed a little more light on the family situation overall.
However, this is not the time for ANYONE to start playing the “blame gameâ€. It’s still a fact that EVERYONE is responsible for his or her own actions. The family situation may not have helped, but no one MADE the patient take that first drink or drug or whatever.
So, that excuse is not going to hold water, and good drug rehab programs will make sure that it doesn’t. Rather, the patient is going to have to take a good long look inward, and forget about anything else but getting straight and staying straight.
